Fiver-a-day organic

Feeding one person well for a fiver a day

The pot

At the beginning of August 2016 I put 150€ in cash in a ceramic Marks and Spencer Stilton jar. This was obviously a mistake as August has 31 days, but never mind.

Shopping for food I eat comes out of the pot. If I am invited to eat elsewhere, the pot generally pays for anything I take, such as wine, nibbles or pudding.

The table is a running total of budget at 5€ a day vs. what is actually left in the pot.

Month Month start Month end Daily
August 2016 150,00€ 5,95€ 4,65€
September 155,95€ 27,30€ 4,28€
October 182,30€ -13,97€ 6,33€
November 136,03€ 8,51€ 4,25€
December 158,51€ 68,37€ 4,29€ *
January 2017 218,37€ 27,46€ 6,15€ *
February 177,46€ 9,28€ 6,01€
March 159,28€ -23,80€ 5,90€
April 126,20€ -24,89€ 5,08€
May 125,11€ -57,00€ 5,87€

This is about where records get a bit vague. So we can conveniently restart in 2017:

Month Month start Month end Daily
August 2017 150,00€ 25,96€ 4,00€
September 175,96€
  • December 2016 and January 2017 are slightly guesstimated because I was absent for the last week of December (and being cooked-for by my mother, bless) then had a friend here for the first week of January 2017 with whom I shared food-spending (there was quite a lot of sparkle-fizz).
